New balance is split into 3 makers Nb USA nb UK and nb Asia The Asian models are usually not very good materials, are not hand made, and have cheaper price points The US and UK made nb are very premium, hand made shoes which go to the higher price points-

not sure if you were focusing on just the 997 but the 997h is a sleeper, it's mad cheap (in comparison to the 900 line, not dirt cheap) but it's still really good quality and they have a lot of different options color wise definitely very durable, lighter than the 990's, and the midsole is still comfortable even tho it's nothing fancy like abzorb or fresh foam etc the 990 will probably last

i have the 997H and they are by far the most uncomfortable NB shoe i own, even after 2 years of wearing them there is a lot of heel-rubbing going on and the shoe as a whole just feels very stiff and rigid it's a pity though, cuz they look freaking amazing i would suggest the 2002r if you're looking for comfort those look pretty good and have a decent price
