That means 4 - 2x6 studs should work If it doesn't, then 1-2x6 @ 16" doesn't work either My gut feel is you need 2-2x6 studs @ 16" for that height wall The required king stud width will probably be getting rediculous, so a steel tube or channel may be in order in place of some of that wood

I think your deflections would be too high with a king post wall The magnitude of deflections of these types of walls is highly dependent on the workmanship, can you guarantee that! In any case you would want to do pre, during, and post construction survey of the brick building Any slight cracking etc and youre setting yourself up for a loss

The "diaphragm action" noted in an earlier post has been used to justify hips without king posts I have talked at length with some other engineers who have modeled the sheathing hip roof system in RISA 3D They apparently got a roof system to work, although they had to fudge one node (I will expain more if you're interested) Hope this helps a
