Hey guys can you tell me the difference in power in a husky 268 50mm open port cylinder and the cylinder from a 266xp? I have heard the closed port have more power but never heard the comparison between the open port Thanks for any input :bowdown:

The 268 became a non-XP in the US with the arrival of the 272XP They were called 268Special and had the larger starter cover decal as on the 272XP So where in the transition does that leave my 268XP Special? Just curious, as mine has a closed port jug instead of the open port version

The 268 is an open port saw, same cylinder as the 66 The 268xp is closed port like the 266, but there are porting differences as well as the filter carb All are the same displacement

Change to 268 xp was where there were actual changes, including to the cylinder, move to single part ignition These both required a change to the cases and they moved to a new muffler design 266 saws had the old style clutch cover and metal brake flag - changed to plastic in the 268

The Husky 268 and 268xp, and all the variants of the Jonsered 670 also had the same bore stroke, and the same "chassis" - I think The 266SE (and SG) had the least power, and the hottest 670 Champ the most - 4 9 hp if my memory is correct

That could be a 268 piston dropped into it, or an actual change On the clutch, one seats against a shoulder on the crank, the other has a cap on it that keeps it spaced on the crank
