I believed conventional wisdom that 1x12 is good, 2x12 is better, and 4x12 is best Until my recent vertical slant 2x12 (2061cx) that had awful phase cancellation Running that 2x12 as a 1x12 sounded better! So 1x12 is good, 2x12 is a crapshoot, and 4x12 is best The fullness of a 4x12 even at low volume in a bedroom is addictive

Ask me how I know 4x12 straight vs 4x12 slant cab? I've personally always preferred straight cabs They sound more even and balanced across the entire frequency spectrum where slant cabs always sound more hyped in the mids However, the slant cab will also be less directional, as two of the speakers will be pointed at your ears

4x12 cabs always sound better 2x12s are far more scooped sounding, even with the exact same speakers lifted from a 4x12

I currently have a 4x10 and 4x12 in constant use my 4x10 is a Carvin of the "vintage" series and the 4x12 is a Marshall 1960A The 4x10 sounds amazing with a Bassman (and YBA-1 Bassmaster) head, the 4x12 fits much better with my Marshall heads

My Deltone sounds way killer with a 4x12 cab and only 2 speakers are active in the cab I have seen stars on stage with combo Amps sitting on 4x12 cabs and sounding phenomenal, only thing is you need roadies to carry all that gear or use a gym daily Bottom line, you can use one of the two stereo inputs as a mono connection on your cabs Thanks

The 4x12 bass cabs Marshall offered up to the late 80's ARE 1960a spec cabinets The bass designation came from the use of H ("heavy") magnets with 444 style "bass" cones But they're bass speakers, right? Kinda 444 cones are also found on K85 K100s and Vintage 30s amongst others They're part of the G12-80 or properly G12H80 speakers
