While most of my welding out here on the farm is with either 7018AC or 6011 (for old dirty rusty stuff), I continue to be fascinated by 7014 and its roller-coaster reputation Today I fiddled a bit with it in the shop and tried something that turned out pretty interesting 7014 is described as

Would 7014 also be considered a "drag rod" too? Also, does 7014 have similar welding characteristics as 6013, or are the two completely different? I know that 6013 was designed for sheet metal originally on DC-, yet works well on AC I know from SOME little experience that is doesn't penetrate that much and produces lots of slag

Welding 1 8 7014, on mild steel with a Miller Dialarc, is fine I recently bought for the first time a box of 3 32 7014 (a brand called Weldmark)

Lincoln's site says 7014 is good for "Maintenance and repair welding, sheet metal and fillet welds, and heavy sections " It would be useful, especially for us beginners, to hear from some of the more knowledgeable members of this forum on the subject, even if they disagree, and maybe we can reach some consensus

For hobby welding 6013 and 7014 are good enough But, there a reason why you have and will never see 6013 or 7014 on a code quality welding job or an industrial work site

7014 is strictly for the noobs never saw it on high rise or heavy construction jobs i don't think i ever saw it in the fab shop either don't hold your breath till it replaces 5p or 7018 what i did see in the fab shop was 7024 which is pretty close to 7014 used with ac jet rod can lay down some heavy molten metal especially in the larger

When I only had a buzz box welder I used it alot Now I used 7018 most of the time 7014 is a good general purpose iron powder rod for flat or horizontal welds Not so good vertical
