Boeing then responded by making the 777X, especially the 779, larger than the 35K Why did Boeing stretch the 777 into the 777X? Because it was the most logical move If Boeing had kept the 777X smaller and closer to the 35K, it likely wouldn’t have differentiated itself as clearly, and sales probably wouldn't have been as strong

For 777X even though engine and performance testing might be done - they would still have to do all the long range and ETOPS flights - would they not? Then verify any systems changes brought on by the new scrutiny
