As far as 105 is concerned, you wouldn't be able to use a current-generation R7000 105 rear derailleur with your existing shifter anyway Your shifter uses the older 1 7 cable pull ratio for Acera Altus rear derailleurs, and isn't compatible with the newer 1 4 cable pull ratio used by the current R7000 105 RD

The 2 tourney ones are pretty much the same Altus and acera are almost the same thing There is also Alivio inbetween acera and deore The newest alivio is really good for a a budget derailleur Good price for what it offers There is also Deore, which has just been updated

Acera is fine for your average person riding some single track which is like 80% of folks that own a mountain bike If you are an advance rider you would want something better, but you clearly don't fall into that category if you haven't been on a mountain bike in decades

The model is a Shimano Acera 9 Speed paired with a standard Shimano 9 spd HG chain After adjusting the high and low position bolts and indexing the best I could, I can get the rear derailleur to shift up (to larger cogs) perfectly smoothly but not down (to smaller cogs)
