I've downloaded gpx files for the IDBDR and can see them in Basecamp, but can't upload to my XT Am thinking I have to buy maps from Garmin for Basecamp to then be able to do that? Am wading through the big XT thread on here but its 200+ pages, so slow going I'd like to just use Basecamp and the XT for all route planning and capture if possible

Then I opened the kml file in Google Earth Actually I double clicked on the kml file and Windows just opened Google Earth and loaded the file in Then I used Google Earth to create a kmz file Basecamp can handle kmz files I used Basecamp to create a GPX file

My other Garmin GPS works fine and is "seen" by my Mac in Finder, connects on Garmin Express, and is seen on Basecamp I use the Garmin provided USB and an Apple USB to my MacBook Air My new Zumo XT is connected to Garmin Express and must be connected in some way to Basecamp because Basecamp downloaded the maps from the XT

BaseCamp 1 replace the section using the Route tool as it will snap to the road 2 convert the route to track 3 making sure the tracks are going in the same direction join the tracks (if a straight dashed line (red arrow) appears between endpoints change the order of tracks listed in the Join Tracks dialog box (blue arrow))

So say you plan a route in basecamp from A to B Then you go out on your bike, and make a detour to check something out while enroute from A to B When you get home, and look at the path you took, you now have a track with a path from A to B, but also showing the path to C as well

Only the Routes you create in BaseCamp can have RoutePoints coded as "Shaping Points" In addition you must not have more than 125 Shaping Points between the maximum 29 Via Points If you set your preferences properly in BaseCamp for converting a Track to a Route, BaseCamp will create proper Routes accordingly
