sorry, ill have to contradict some of the previous posts in this thread, last time i misread it, the engines are the same, just the 4 0 is just that, a VQ bored out to 4 0, same as the origional VQ engine introduced with 3 5L displacement in the 01 pathy, same engine as the 3 0VQ in the infinity I30, the maxima uses the VQ, the new xterras frontiers use the VQ, the 350Z uses the VQ the oil

There are performance parts available for the VG engines and a lot that can be done to improve them but it’s really a matter of what you are expecting after the upgrades I have long tube headers, no cats, NISMO catback exhaust, ported intake, ported and polished heads, JWT cams and springs, 3 angle valve job, blah blah blah

4) Cam Upgrade – 4x4parts com offers 2 kinds of cams for the VG33E a high performance and a race cam, I do not recommend the Race cam as I think it will be too much for a daily driver, it may work well as a trail only rig but I would still lean more towards the high performance version Along with a new cam, new lifters are required as well

Only 1 other thing to throw in the mix, if you do decide on upgrades down the trail, besides prioritizing them as far as wants, prioritize them as far as buiding blocks as well Meaning, think about a BL PML (Body Lift Poor Man's Lift) before bumpers sliders or 33's

well the 3 3 isn't a performance engine, its a good built engine and will last a long time but its not a performance engine by any means, in that case you could do intake, exhaust, headers, and if you are willing to spend money, cams, and a custom tune to get everything out of all them mods i love my frontier with the 3 3, nice driving truck and the 3 3 has plenty of power for what i need it for
