It does have some high level GPS mapping capability of those trails While I currently subscribe to GAIA, I really haven't used it or learned it yet But my understanding is that it's more mapping navigation oriented and less touring information

Honestly, I prefer using Gaia GPS for navigating and Trails Offroad for finding trails (and syncing the trail route over to Gaia GPS) I tried the 6months trail of OnX and just couldnt get use to the way the map is displayed

I have found gaia useful for saving coordinates where I take pictures, rather than trying to guess later On my first two trips in Nevada I used the Jeep gps and it successfully took me on a few long two-rut BLM roads

And that's not just directed at onx or gaia both apps I've had issues with My experience also! Tried multiple different apps and found them so frustrating I always ended up going back to Garmin GPS units, using Garmin maps and Garmin's Basecamp program to create tracks to follow

I'm not sure how you'd do that though if it is taking your GPS information relative to all the waypoints It would have to somehow compare your location to where you are along the spline of all the waypoints together Still would be cool to have that though

I use my Gaia GPS on my Iphone (Carplay) and never used the GPS on the uconnect just did a week without cell service for the vast majority of it If you're worried about it, carry another phone or grab a Garmin or something Download maps from Google or a backup service If you're really worried about it, carry a Garmin Inreach or rent a Sat

I bought an iPad to specifically use for GPS and used the GAIA GPS app to find trails and dispersed camping areas not covered by Google or other services While the GPS antennae worked with no cell service, the app could not load new map tiles without that cell connection So I had to pre-download maps using the app for places I know I would be
