Since my setup automatically connects Carplay when the vehicle is started, I have to disconnect my phone, activate the Wi-Fi hotspot, connect any devices I want to use to Wi-Fi, then go reconnect my phone to the vehicle and Carplay then becomes usable while devices (including the phone with Carplay) remain connected to Wi-Fi

Apple CarPlay works great as you would expect… both wired and wireless There is zero latency and it works as good or better than I've seen in OEM CarPlay examples from Volkswagen, Mazda, etc I’ve always preferred wired though and I’ll keep trying both to find the best option for me I like wired as it charges my phone and is 100% reliable

CarPlay runs on your phone so if you force close the maps app on your phone it’ll close on the dashboard Wireless CarPlay is known to drain battery because it’s creating a hotspot to connect to the dashboard through WiFi, so this is draining most of the battery (the process of transmitting what’s happening on your phone to the screen)
