- Slab Mill - Woodworking Talk
For small-medium logs you just can't beat a bandmill I have had opportunities to slab out big logs (and crotches) 60"-70" 100" across, but not the equipment The thing about those swingers is you don't have to move the biggies, set the mill over it and saw away But they are expensive :whistling2: Having said that so is a hardwood slab 4'-6
- How to flatten plane a very large live edge slab
The only mill that will yield 2 piece around 2" thick is a band mill Then if there is any twist in the original slab, or after it's cut you may not get your desired ( 2" ) thickness If that's OK, then you can proceed with the hand plane, power planer, a 24" jointer, or a router and sled

- Flattening wood slabs with router - Woodworking Talk
My personal preference for slab flattening is using a cheap Harbor Freight Electric hand plane, and using winding sticks to rough it fairly flat, then finish with a #5 and #4 hand plane I must admit it took some time on 2 slabs that were cut into boards 12" x 36" from a dead white birch using a chainsaw guided by eye
- Drying time for oak slabs - Woodworking Talk
This video is about a lumber mill that provides a kiln drying service, but of course you'd need to bring the slabs to them You can either air dry them on your own, build a solar kiln or farm them out to a local kiln drying service, but always seal the ends right after milling and bind and weigh down the slabs after stickering to prevent
