A lot of condenser mics have a bass rolloff switch, which basically just cuts some of the lower frequencies I will be using a condenser mic for vocals, and I was wondering if this bass rolloff switch is really necessary? In other words, should I only be looking for condenser mics with this feature if I will be using it for vocals?

Ah, my first mic was an electret condenser, curtesy of SOny It was a long time ago (c 1978)- I can't remember what it sounded like My old tascam 4 track reel to reel recordings aren't, well that good I lost the mic, but found the little-rubber like case Yea, one of the AT mics, as I recall, are an electret

with a condenser you can obviously get further away if room sound permits, but in my case it does not, so usually 4-12" depending on volume i keep the pop filter about 4" away from the mic (seems to help having an air gap) and i use the pop filter as a guide for stage singing as mike said and i back off if i'm going to belt it out
