Myself, I wouldn't take a shot over about 180 yards with a 30-30 for clean kill on deer with factory ammo If remember correctly, you want to have a terminal energy around 900 ft lbs or better in order to cleanly kill

now for on game performance, the 3 of us shot 6 deers it went as follow i shot a doe broadside at 220 yards, hit top of the heart ,broke right leg on exit the doe went to the ground upon impact ,came back up ran 75 yard and fell dead profuse blood trail like archery kill 1 5" entrance and exit wound good internal damage
