The DSD master is generally done at a lower volume than the source to help stabilize the bitstream convertor when the source is DXD or other PCM derivatives, usually -6dB, but could be your software takes care of this automatically when converting DSD to PCM, so that part may be a don't care So in that case, just ignore that part of my response

The only external DAC with native DSD decoding capability with HDMI inputs that I know of is the Bryston BDA-3 (released just last year) -- but that costs $3,500 There are a few mega-dollar DACs that can native decode DSD from proprietary interconnects

Foobar2000 is a great player, and with the SACD plug-in, it can play DSD files, but by default, it is set to output PCM If that is what you want, great If that is not what you want, you need to get to this screen and change the top drop-down labeled "Output Mode:" from PCM to DSD
