I also have given up on Optima batteries Many years ago they would last 12 years, but then they wouldn't last 4 years I've been using Odyssey batteries for the last 18 years with no issues The one in my '32 Roadster was installed in '06, still going strong

Optima is still owned by JCI, they just moved ops to mexico and shut my plant down and left me jobless- but thats another story The quality issue is the result of cost cutting measures that were implemented about 2 years ago and are now really showing up

The battery cover is slightly higher than the cargo floor due to the extra height of the Optima battery, I've already determined it is due to the thick insulation installed under the battery cover; since the door can be pressed down to it's proper position, so I may redo the insulation with a thinner piece, If anyone interested, I'll post pics

I've used Optima batteries for years, 6 12 volt I use a battery tender on them all the time Best I got out of one was 10 years and I had trouble with one and Optima replaced it NO problem No matter what type of battery you use if you don't use a battery tender it won't last!!!!!

Optimas were pretty good batteries if bought back in the mid 90's But I have heard nothing but bad things about present (or recent) Optimas lately Dunno if I would by another The one I had lasted 12 years before my horn relay stuck and cooked it And no, my horns are not hooked up, so I never heard my horn relay assasinating my Optima

Sears sell chargers specifically for AGM (Optima) batteries Optima now sells a battery charger too AGM's do require special charging methods if the voltage is below ~12 4 volts Talked to the Optima reps at Goodguys Pleasanton last month and they said keeping a maintainer on an Optima is OK and recommended but I have seen some maintainers

Gel batteries-Optima have to be charged differently The charge has to "taper off" as they reach a full charge, because the water acid in them is suspended in the gel, not in the normal cells where the excess heat and gas can "boil" out

I bought my first Optima for my '51 in the mid nineties I am on on my third which I bought in 2019 Well over 20 years for the first two and 6 so far on this one I replaced the second one prematurely, as I thought it had gone bad, but it turned out that my starter needed brushes I still have the second one and it still holds a charge
