  • Electric motors on a Woods Flica 34 sailing catamaran
Re: Electric motors on a Woods Flica 34' sailing catamaran Our setup w 48V 240A 11 6kWh LiPo batt bank, 460W solar has all electric utiliies: large stand-up front-opening freezer fridge (less than 1kW 24 hrs), 1kW microwave, 800W water-boiler pot, and 2-burner non-induction elect cooktop
  • Woods Designs - Eclipse, Flica and Vardo build times
The Flica was designed in 1981 so naturally its styling is no longer fashionable However the boat still works well as a cruiser, many happy owners have sailed many ocean miles in them I would say though, that the three designs are very different The Flica has the most room, and is the slowest
  • Electric motors on a Woods Flica 34 sailing catamaran
Thanks for the input! The elco electric outboard EP-9 9 goes for $2910 and the elco electric inboard goes for $7995, which isn't too bad
  • Electric motors on a Woods Flica 34 sailing catamaran - Page 2 . . .
Let's say, theoretically, I equipped the flica with an electric inboard in one hull , and a comparable diesel inboard (with alternator) in the other Electric motors on a Woods Flica 34' sailing catamaran - Page 2 - Cruisers Sailing Forums
  • Using multiple electric trolling motors on a 34 catamaran - Cruisers . . .
It will work but most trolling motors are 20% efficiency With electric 90% efficiency has been achieved, and for comparison torqeedo is 50% or so, but those motors are designed to push a smaller boat so the efficiency will not be good pushing a larger one as the propeller diameter is too small, the rpm too high and the pitch too high so it will slip a lot
  • Woods Designs - Eclipse, Flica and Vardo build times
I would That is 5 x 40 hour weeks I would also worry about using a material (ply) that is twice the weight of foam glass, requires more frame work, is harder to use (scarphing, edge treatment, glassing, attaching things to, filling and fairing) and if not perfectly maintained, will rot
  • Seawind or Woods - Cruisers Sailing Forums
The Flica started as a 34' and grew to a 37' and the Seawind went from about 32' 8" to 35' 5" for the XL2 model I would take a larger Flica over a smaller Seawind But the Seawind XL and the XL2 are really cool with the extended sterns, self tacking jib and other features but will probably cost (a lot) more than the big Flica
  • Woods Designs - Eclipse, Flica and Vardo build times
I would like to have the waterline plane area of the 3 designs to compare My guess is the Vardo is perhaps 3 4 of the Flica and maybe just a bit more than the eclipse It might also be useful to double check the final displacement figures as I was quite careful with loading, but that last 4" of waterline went fast!
