- Is it OK to use ikea furniture as stands for our tanks?
I wouldn't trust the normal ikea stuff without reinforcement The stuff made from solid pine wood is OK, and should be able to support an aquarium <50g no problem The post above is correct, probably 80% of stands out there are made of particle board or MDF, they just should be sealed and treated properly

So I'm thinking about heading to IKEA to buy some slab doors or cover panels that might work I would build the guts out of 2x4s and then lay some 1 4" plywood, maybe flat black so the lines between the slabs and upper trim piece would really stand out Then I would just glue on the sides and upper trim piece and attach the doors

Ikea is made for a price to do a specific job and, that was not an Aquarium stand Would it be suitable for an Aquarium definitely not It was possibly made and sold at a Box kit, a lightweight processed board certainly not moisture or water proof As for such a heavy load eg Aquarium totally unsuitable

I am about to buy a new tank, I am either going to go for the pticlear low profile, 120 x 30 x 30, or a DIVERSA 100 x 45 x30 or one from ebay, 91 x 46 x 30cm I don't love the look of tank stands, ideally wanted to use my IKEA kallaz unit, however have read they can only take 25kg Alternative
