The only major downside I see to a gyro is that in the event of a good roll over the gyro will sustain major damage Then again if you flip a fixed wing on its back or a trike I suppose it will cost about the same to repair any of them Trikes are more efficient and I believe the smaller wings have decent cruise speeds in the 70 to 90mph range
