华（拼音：huá，huà，huā）是汉语一级通用规范汉字（常用字） [2]。 此字初文见于西周金文 [1]，其古字形像花朵，本义指草木的花，读huā。 用作动词，指开花。 南北朝时期产生了“花”字，用于花朵义。 花朵是美丽的，故“华”又引申为光彩、华丽。 再引申指事物的精华，又引申指文采，用作名词，读huá。 中国古称“华夏”，后来“华夏”就成了汉民族的代名词，再后来引申指“中国”。 “华”又读huà，用于五岳之一的“华山”，也用作姓氏。 “华”最早作“𠌶”，无“艸（艹）”字头。 西周金文（图1-2）的“𠌶”像花朵的形状，就是“ 花 ”的本字：上部像花瓣，中部两横画像花萼和花托，下部像茎和根。 也有人认为“𠌶”像株繁花盛开的草木。 中有株，下有根，旁有枝，上有花。
