On the bright side if you purchase the Humminbird it will probably be a couple of years before you see a improved new unit to purchase On the opposite side if you buy a current Garmin right now there most likely will be something better available in the next 12 months that will torment you to purchase

The only time I used my US2 on mine was when I was jigging salmon and wanted to see right under the front of the boat and even then wasn't worth the loss in quality frequency options from the stern transducer There's some really good Humminbird facebook pages that provide a wealth of information and will readily answer any questions you have

IF you have a MEGA LIVE 2, then you have to update the G3 to run it If you get an Xplore, you have to update the G3 to be compatible The new software changes all the unit menus to match the Xplore If those three items are not what you NEED, don't update READ the entire software description on the Humminbird website
