The new 2021 3 also has a new turbo option that increases the 2 5 186hp unit to a turbocharged 2 5 250hp unit ( pretty much identical to the turbocharged mazda 6 unit) Something to note is the new 3 has torsion beam rear suspension while the 6 stays independent multi link rear suspension

Outside of that, it really comes down to mileage and features Mazda has been using the same power train since 2013-2014 And many people are rolling around with higher mileage older models So, these vehicles can last a long time of maintained properly Some of the older models used the 2 0 liter in the lower trims and I would stay away from

Considering people with issues are having them nearly immediately in the typical car ownership timeline while others are fine with many more miles, it feels like specific builds are having issues rather than a general issue with power trains

I don't know the exact specs but Mazda likes to limit the performance levels of their current engines via software only, so I assume there is a large chance this is the case with the inline-6 too Easier to manufacture and can upsell basically the same engine without added costs
