- Osaka vs. Kyoto? : r JapanTravelTips - Reddit
Never had a problem finding stuff to do in Kyoto (days and evenings packed) The time in Osaka felt about right, we didn't do any side trips (had planned to but Kyoto was too entertaining to leave) If you want big city vibes stay in Osaka, if you want to explore a more historical city with better access to nature then Kyoto is better

We are at A Happy Pancake Kyoto and had the BEST soufflé pancakes for breakfast we have ever had Waited 45 mins and don’t regret a second of it!! There are also fantastic cocktails at Scotch and Branch We had great Mitarashi dango near the train station at Arashiyama, but it was a long wait and very crowded

One lone bright spot is that Tominokoji Yamagishi seems to no longer (or at least not always) serve their previously instagram-famous uni-dog, but here they still always include a "uniku dog"- uni + raw meat This was pretty good, so you be your own judge if you have to try it in Kyoto In general, seems like Tokyo is better for yakiniku (and uni)

Definitely go check it out if you’re staying in Kyoto Overall, utilizing my free certificate paid for my annual fee after one night Kyoto is a historic city in Japan, and after a long day of exploring, the Hyatt Place was the perfect location to rest
- Everything Kyoto - Reddit
I have been to famous spots like Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, Kyoto station, Nishiki market, horseracing etc So I’m looking for hidden gems in Kyoto Preferably related to Japanese culture (I mean not like shopping centres) Events will also be good, but I searched in calendars and there’s no event in Kyoto Thank you so much!
- Best location to stay in for first visit to Kyoto?
I would suggest the Cross Hotel Kyoto (different location than the Sakura Cross Hotel suggested in another comment ) It was super close to Pontocho Alley and Kiyamachi-dori We easily walked to Gion several times The Sanyo train station is a 5 minute walk, and it was fairly easy getting to from Kyoto station
