I also prefer Lucerne to Lausanne That's not to say that Lausanne doesn't have it's "charms" but for me there's something special about Lucerne, and some nice day trips possible from there Regardless of which place you choose, be sure to pack lots of money as Switzerland is expensive!

Lucerne is a 2 hr train ride from Interlaken, due to frequent stops You can easily get from Interlaken to Zurich airport in 2 5 hrs because it runs more as an express Lucerne is nice, my wife and I like it for a 2 day visit I would think that making it as a base would just extend your travel times to other parts of the country that you want to visit

steve Swiss rail is very convenient Luzern to Interlaken is about 2 hours or so, each way I've been to each twice Luzern is more comfortable, old money and beautiful setting on the lake Interlaken is closer to the big mountains, hiking, etc I prefer Interlaken, but Luzern is more comfortable for first time to Switzerland I would not want to spend 4 hours on the train to commute from one

We'll be in Lucerne in May of 2025 should we get tickets for the Golden Roundtrip now or wait to day of or when we arrive in Lucerne Read some concerns about checking weather in the morning and going to Mount Pilatus on a different day but if we buy our tickets now, we'll be locked in thoughts? We're troopers, but would appreciate input

The trip from Lucerne to Kleine Scheidegg (where you connect with the Jungfraubahn) is 3H:13M with two changes If your primary sightseeing goal is the Jungfraujoch, it would be better to stay in Lauterbrunnen or Mürren in order to reduce the travelling time
