This is true of a lot of local papers so I don't blame them, but they used to be the absolute best when it came to Salt Lake City County coverage, and have really started to drop the ball Also, their recent editorial endorsements were pretty weak, which has me concerned about who is in charge of their vision

I don't think there really is room in Utah for any additional mainstream statewide daily news sources since there's just no business model to support them; I'd rather support the Salt Lake Tribune but continue to see it drift from the focus it should have on covering Utah and drift into some weird niche areas that may be attractive to

Trib has also changed ownership a few times, and their operating model has changed as a result 4 or 5 years ago, they steered clear of stories that reflected poorly on political candidates they endorsed (looking at you, Sim Gill), with the result that a lot of people in Salt Lake City didn't really understand the machinations of the political

I work at Fox 13 and we have a news-sharing agreement with the Salt Lake Tribune I say that by way of disclosure but I've worked in this market for years before that and what I'm about to say I would have said before the agreement: The Salt Lake Tribune does so much of the incredibly necessary and often-overlooked-as-boring news that is essential to the health of our community
