Old PHH was removed by using a hookbill knife along with a sharpened paring knife then long needle nose pliers to pull the pieces off the pipes Note in the photo below how the PHH pipe (water pipe sub assembly 87209-60381) and short pipe on the head are almost touching (hose has been removed):

Got the Silicone PHH FHH kit here on mud with the constant torque clamps, went to O'reilly's and got a couple feet of Goodyear "GardenHose" green-sleeved silicone hose and bypassed the metal part of the PHH, I sleeved the goodyear bit with hi-temp, split wiring loom

I picked up my first 80 a few months back and am not too familiar with the 1fz system This is what presents itself around the area of the PHH and I haven't looked too much further into what is going on My guess is that I am looking at a PHH bypass setup wrapped around the master cylinder, with a cloth braided heater hose of some kind

Later, when I pulled my PHH hard line the original paint was completely gone, and there was severe pitting where the PHH (original 30 year old, 297K mile, but not failed part!) attached to the pipe I used a strip of emery cloth and some sandpaper to try to take down the pitting, but I'm not comfortable with the results

Welcome to an extremely useful site! I just replaced the PHH yesterday My 93' just turned over 200k I was going to use regular OE hose but after removing the old one and realizing how much of a PITA it is to get at, I quickly decided to go get some silicone hose and two of those constant torque clamps in the hopes of never, ever having to replace it again

If the PHH is in a crap state the chances are the bypass hose to the throttle body is also as bad You may find that your best option is to pop off the throttle body and upper half of the intake You will get super easy access to the PHH and the throttle body hose and as a bonus you can swap out the vacuum lines that hide under the intake
