A portable PS6 in 2028 should be able to comfortably play PS1-PS4 games Even though base PS5 is unlikely to be possible, most big PS5 games have PS4 versions The rest can be patched with PS6 support to run at lower resolutions and framerate targets There might be some exceptions but probably not many

Feels like PS6 will be the gen I will be priced out of launch date, especially if it's coming in the next few years I'm not too concerned, I'll probably sit tight with my PS5 for as long as possible but yeah, it's crazy to even think about next gen, feels like this generation of consoles have barely scratched what they're capable of

That said, I think knowing this, Sony will extend this generation out to be a longer one, even if PS6 hardware is locked in and decided upon in time for a typical generational transition to begin -- just in hopes of normalizing dev cost and dev timelines before introducing the challenges of even more powerful (and expensive to work with) hardware

Then there's definitely an audience for a device that natively plays PS5 games at lower res perf fidelity and PS4 games without needing to stream from a device I also have no doubt that if this is releasing with or after the PS6 that a lot of PS6 games will support PS5P by releasing cross gen and using the low power mode introduced in the PS5 SDK

A handheld doesn't need to pump out full-res and full-detail rendering, and it needs to be practical on battery wattage This would be an INCREDIBLY capable device if it's even mentioned in the same breath as a PS5 The idea that a handheld made for the PS6 generation won't be as powerful as the PS5 should almost go without saying
