- The opposite of gift - English Language Usage Stack Exchange
in your context, "A kind word can be a gift but a kind word said in malice is not a gift It is a ____ " I would use an antonym of 'blessing'; either 'curse' or 'scourge' "A kind word can be a gift but a kind word said in malice is not a gift It is a scourge "
- antonyms - Is there a word for the opposite of a gift - English . . .
If I give you a gift, I reward you with something In contrast, if I take something away from you, then I am either punishing or penalizing you As such, I would say that, in general, the opposite of a gift is a punishment or penalty In terms of something specific, it would be a forfeiture: [Merriam-Webster]

As punishment, he gifted him a rare and highly prized white elephant Since it was a gift from the king, the courtier had to take good care of the elephant and could not possibly give it away, but the problem is, elephants are very costly to keep Although it looked like a generous gift, the elephant would financially ruin the courtier

- single word requests - Whats an antonym to legacy? - English . . .
find_legacy_record and find_[opposite of legacy]_record I tried looking in a thesaurus for synonyms of old , but nothing really fit well with my use Legacy is a good term in programming, because you're less likely to confuse it to something else ( old can also mean a previous state of the record, not necessarily belonging to an old system)
- Whats the opposite of “last-minute (Christmas) shopping”?
Adding “bird” to “early” (= “early bird”***) would at least provide a figurative, if not slangish, option and I imagine that one of the benefits of reasons for being an “early bird” ”early-bird shopper” is avoiding the last-minute (Christmas shopping) rush
