That pirogue seems to have sides that were almost vertical, well maybe 15 or 20 degrees Spreading the sides out increases the displacement (footprint of the boat) as the boat is loaded It also offers more stability as you lean from side to side than those with more vertical sides

Re: 14" x 30" x 18 lb Pirogue I ran across some thin plastic material at Lowes a few months ago I think I started a thread about it even I bet it would be a good substitute for the aluminum Wouldnt have the noise issue aluminum does And I found out that surprisingly that contact cement works pretty well on it

Funny thing about the pirogue, first time in one and it does feel a little "tippy " But the more you use it, the more stable it seems to get I just put that down to some little understood bit of Cajun design practice Don't understand it, but it works I really like the folding seat on Uncle John's web site Built two myself and they are great

sailing pirogue I built one of your UJ pirogues, I liked it a lot, I had it for about 2 months befor I droped one end and broke it I used Gorilla glue and taped the seams, when it hit the concrete it cracked up the stem

The one pirogue that I stretched out to 17 feet for use as a solo paddling boat can now be used as a double paddler One seat just behind the front rib or where ever the person in the front wants it and the second seat just in front of the back rib, or anywhere in-between to balance the boat
