In-patients, RLUH: All routine specimens are taken daily by directorate phlebotomists with support from other directorate staff Specimens are collected from the wards by the laboratory porters at hourly intervals as per published timetable (Monday to Friday)

Within RLUH Laboratory reports are collected from the departments at 10 50, 14:00, 17 00 and 19 25hrs (Monday to Friday), and delivered to all the wards and link units (except the 19 15 delivery which is to the wards only) by the hospital porters

The combined clinical laboratories at RLUH handle extremely large numbers of telephone enquiries each day For example, Clinical Chemistry alone deals with in excess of 1000 day The majority are for results Laboratory reports are delivered to the wards four times a day
