It's an age thing they were both about 4 years old and was very happy with them till one just stopped working and the other fried the lead acid battery on my 900 Boiled the thing dry and then was continuously desulphanating any battery I connected to it So I've replaced both with an Optimate 4, and touch wood no problems yet

My £20 charger stopped working, split cable, so I bought a new Optimate 4 canbus enabled charger My question is this, do I have to charge through the canbus system or can I attach an ordinary Optimate cable directly to the battery and charge it that way
- Can I start my bike while connected to an Optimate?
Never a deliberate thing, I just forgot to unplug them The Optimate won't act as a booster, it's a battery tender and no more The only thing I've seen on an odd occasion is the Optimate will throw up a fault, but switching it off and on again re-sets it I wouldn't recommend it, but it doesn't seem to harm them :smile:
