Tip for beginners: go through RTK and learn the kanji Once you start doing that regularly it's really gonna improve your ability of memorizing words and kanj, even those you haven't learnt through RTK yet

RTK is the first (1) type, which, as student in the US, I found to be very helpful It took me a solid 3 months to grind through the book, and another 6 months to have them all stick, but it made the rest of the studying practice easier
