When Remo came out with its Gold Crown sets in the early-mid 2000s, they have new shells called Advanced Acousticon Interestingly, Remo dropped the molded bearing edges and returned to cut edges for these drums In an interview in Modern Drummer, a Remo rep said that the molded edge wasn't working for them but didn't explain exactly what he meant

Remo has the best “wet” sounds (Specifically Diplomat, Ambassador, and Emperors) The Falam fabric heads served me well in my early, heavy-hitting years 2 ) Evans mastered the dry, muted sounds—best for studio work, I guess I used these in my 20s when I thought less ring sounded better

Remo has always been a big dog in the area of drum heads and has a bit of a following for their world percussion instruments Their djembes in particular are very popular As for their drum kits, they never became a major player That isn't because of quality Their drums sound great and I've found them to have good build quality

Remo's Acousticon shells ARE wood! They are reoriented wood fibers impregnated with plastic, formed to match the density of natural wood For all intents and purposes, they are wood shells that are weatherproof and more resilient Remo's drums sounded great, but for whatever reasons, they put the worst hardware on them

Yup, it's common mistake that non-drummers make, made more confusing by the fact that the Remo company DID also make some drums I still occasionally pick up cheap drums advertised as "Remo" that turn out to be rather more valuable Ludwig or Tama, though not as often as in pre-Internet days Tacovine, looks like you have it all under control!
