Re: Mounting a portable outboard While my motor is only clamped, I also lock the tabs together and have a safety chain to prevent it form going down to the bottom of the sea Through-bolting on smaller motors isn't usually necessary, particularly if you want need to remove the motor often, but it never hurts either

Re: What to use for sealing transom motor bolts Another product is Boat Life sealer I used it on my motor mount bolts (40hp) three seasons ago No sign of leaking And it stays fairly flexable, won't get hard and brittle It is designed to seal marine applications that you will have to get apart eventually It is NOT silicone, and takes almost a full week to cure, but I think it is a great

Re: What Kind of bolts are used to mount Outboard's ? JJB, We normally use the largest bolt that will fit in the mounting holes (usually 3 8") I recommend stainless, with SS flat washers and SS locking nuts SS is plenty strong for this purpose Put some caulk on the bolts to seal them
