- What is Your Method for Measuring Scope Height? - Snipers Hide
I have a few techniques for measuring scope height for use in a range finder ballistic calculator However, I'm curious What does everyone else do to measure the height of their scope above the bore? For a follow-up question how far off the actual height do you think you can be until it
- CHARGE WEIGHT TUNING FOR ACCURACY AND THE ASSOCIATED BARREL HARMONICS
BACKGROUND Vaughn and Kolbe carried out a number of evaluations whereby a rifle was instrumented in a manner to measure movement of the muzzle during shooting and the subsequent effect on accuracy These and numerous other vibration studies focus on transverse bending wave behavior whereby the barrel muzzle vibrates up and down like a ruler suspended on the edge of a table does after it is

The pic without the ruler is in the cocked position one pic is with the ruler in the cocked position and one is in the fired position There is some movement in the post fired state, maybe 125 inches but nothing near like the first stage in the cocked position Hope this helps View attachment 8232633 View attachment 8232634 View attachment

That calibrated ruler is called a reticle taking away the need to “Think” about the adjustment, you just read it If the impact is off in any direction, you measure with the reticle and then translate that reading directly to the turrets 1 Mils is always 1 Mil, and 1 MOA in any direction is a 1 MOA correction on the turret

Remember, the only ruler we can put on any target we want is the reticle It makes sense on a KD range, but I want to always work with a method the works in practical shooting situations That’s why I don’t worry about it and use the angle
- Rifle Scopes - Does scope FOV scale linearly throughout the mag range . . .
Yes the FOV scales linearly with magnification, unless the scope tunnels in which case after the tunneling it will scale correctly To work out the FOV for any magnification: multiply the maximum mag FOV spec by the magnification then divide by the magnification you want For example, to find the FOV on the Razor Gen 3 at 27x to compare agaisnt the Gen 2 Razor 3 5ft X 36x 27x = 4 667ft

The ruler cannot be in error, assuming that the measurement was carefully made at an accurate distance When making such measurements, I don't assume that the 100 yard mark at a range is actually at 100 yards - I measure it with a tape A laser can be off by a yard or more, but a tape will not be

Just set the scope slightly loose in the rings, put a metal ruler leaned forward in a slot of the pic rail, and attempt to tilt it vertical, simultaneously contacting the flat bottom of the scope turret area with the upper surface of the ruler, and the flat surface of the pic rail with the bottom surface of the ruler
