The 27 pancake isn’t the sharpest but it does give you some good bokeh and I find that with the 40mp you still get a lot of details without getting like every persons pores and peachfuzz I also have the 16-55 WR lens which is a boss lens but its big and it’s sharp in such a way that it can look sterile in some situations

If you get to the point where you are wanting more from VR, the Quest 3 and pancake lenses will be there To answer your question though, pancake lenses, especially Metas, are really a big deal All the main issues that people have with fresnel lenses are not only no longer an issue, but a strong point of the headset

Having the quest 3 now, there is no comparison It is crystal clear edge to edge, even with the IPD totally fucked up (meaning, even when you set it poorly, its still clear, its like you cant miss the sweetspot if you tried) Now that I've seen pancake lenses, I certainly will be considering the lenses in any future headset I buy

The Zeiss 35 mm f 2 8 is pretty small, as well, but not pancake territory The Samyang 35mm f 2 8 AF is the closest thing I have found and it is decently sharp and cheap Unfortunately, it's also about twice as thick as the Nikon or Canon pancake lenses, so the camera won't really be jacket pocketable
