Welcome SpareTheAir org has some great tools and resources to help the Bay Area improve air quality
- What Is Spare the Air?
Spare the Air was created in 1991 by the Bay Area Air District to alert residents when air quality is forecast to be unhealthy and to share information on ways to reduce air pollution
- Alerts and Advisories - Spare the Air program
From November through February, the Air District will call a Spare the Air Alert when fine particle pollution is expected to build up to concentrations above the Air District's Wood Burning Rule threshold
- Air Quality Forecast - Spare the Air program
For fine particle pollution, or PM2 5, per the Air District's Wood Burning Rule, a Spare the Air Alert is called when air quality is forecast to be above 80 on the AQI scale, in any of the reporting zones
- Sign Up for Alerts - Spare the Air program
Subscribers are expected to receive an estimated 1-15 texts per month depending on the number of poor air quality days in the Bay Area Message and data rates may apply
- Wood Burning Rule - Spare the Air program
When fine particle pollution is expected to exceed the Air District's Wood Burning Rule threshold, the Air District will call a Spare the Air Alert for particulate pollution, during which the use of fireplaces, outdoor fire pits, and wood stoves will not be allowed
