You can raise 'pods on spirulina powder, just get a food grade supplement powder, it works very well I do agree that unless you're trying to feed something like a Mandarin, I think it's better to culture phytoplankton and use that to feed the 'pods already in your tank, plus other filter feeding organisms can benefit from the phyto Good luck!
