- Blackfoot Ultra – Death by 100 Hills
Blackfoot Ultra Blackfoot Ultra originated in 2002 At that time, there were fewer than 6 ultras in all of Alberta The race was created to highlight the beautiful trail system in the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation area and to prepare racers for mountain races later in the season Blackfoot is where many runners run their first ultra, or their first trail race longer than 10 km
- Registration – Blackfoot Ultra
The 2026 Blackfoot Ultra is Saturday May 30, 2026 Registration opens Oct 27, 2025 for Ultra distances and Jan 1, 2026 for the Baby Ultra (25 km) and kids’ races Registration Info: **Volunteer Requirement: Since 2009 we have required racers to give back by committing to four hours of volunteer time in your local area This can encompass anything from volunteering at a running race
- 50 Km – Blackfoot Ultra
Start Finish location: Islet Lake Staging Area, Blackfoot Recreation Area The 50 km course consists of two 25 km loops There is 10 hour time limit, but keep busy and don’t idle at the aide stations or you may get bit by beaver Runners must start their final loop by 3 pm This race was the course for the 2009 Canadian 50 km Trail Championship

Distances General Course Information: The course consists of a 25 km loop in the beautiful Cooking Lake Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area Even years the course is run in the clockwise direction Odd years the course is run in the counter clockwise direction
- 100 km – Blackfoot Ultra
Race start time: 5:00 AM Start Finish location: Islet Lake Staging Area, Blackfoot Recreation Area The 100 km course consists of four 25 km loops There is a generous 14 hour time limit, but don’t spend too much time at the aide stations or you may get caught by moose Runners must start their final loop by 3 pm

The race start finish is located at Islet Staging Area, Blackfoot Recreation area Islet is located east of Edmonton on Highway 630 Take Range Road 200 Follow the road all the way to the end Do not take the turn to Central (unless you are going there to crew someone or are volunteering for an aide station other than Islet) Islet Lake Staging Area, Range Rd 200A, Sherwood Park, AB T0B 4J1

Contact Blackfoot Ultra is co-directed by the husband and wife team of Gary and Amber Poliquin Gary is the original Race Director for Blackfoot Ultra Gary is affectionally known as the “Grand Daddy” of ultras with over 100 ultras under his belt Gary loves the ultra community and was one of the founding members of the Alberta Ultra series
