VTSAX and VTI are just different members of the same share class They have identical holdings and tax efficiency You don’t need to do a thing You certainly don’t want to create a taxable event by selling VTSAX If you feel the need to hold only VTI Vanguard will allow a one way exchange from VTSAX to VTI but not the reverse of that Cheers

VTWAX will particularly help if when global market cap shifts from the US to asia pac I will add that Vanguard Professional Advisor Services still prefers VTSAX Over the years VPAS have also been recommending Extended market (VEXAX)and Value market (VVIAX) in addition to VTSAX, to offset the issue that the the top 5 stocks make up 20% of VTWAX

I choose VTSAX for my taxable brokerage account as I dollar cost average into the market and setting up automatic investing makes everything more convenient However, for my Backdoor Roth I choose to lump sum into the market each year, so I just use VTI because you’ll save some $ with ETFs (however little) due to the slightly lower ER

VTSAX is entirely US Even Vanguard pairs VTSAX with VTIAX -- look at their target date funds They're split 4 ways: US Stock (VTSAX), US Bonds, International Stock (VTIAX) and International bonds The ratio between stocks and bonds is age based The ratio between US and International is 60 40 (last I checked)
