I am new to whitefish fishing because whenever I caught one I always thought it was a pike minnow, but one guy told me it was a mountain whitefish and its really good smoked or pickled So I wanted to fish for them but have no idea where to catch them and how? Because their mouth is really small but I heard they catch them on jigs

umm kinda moving water im catching them at the mouth of the clackamas river where it runs into the willamette by the boat ramp its kinda slow moving water but it is moving

My anecdotal conclusion was that whitefish are more active in winter cold water than trout, say under 50F When water was below 40 on some days my catch ratio was 5 1, others it was 10 1 for whitefish over trout And the whitefish were definitely far more agressive fighters than trout at that temperature

The whitefish is actually a close cousin of the trout family (just like arctic char's are also related) They are reported to be flavorful and have similar bone structure I still, however, cannot picture myself eating a "sucker" fish of any kind whitefish, chub, or pikeminnow (squawfish)

On Sunday, the kids and I went out to Dog Lake, and hooked into this bad boy It hit on a Bomber 6A, and was around 15" long All I can figure is that it is a Chub, but I've never heard of one getting that big, and I thought they were more of a golden color Any ideas?

I fished today on deschutes, right after warm springs casino, caught bunch of whitefish, and a coho Coho still open till December, took a couple whitefish for the smoker as well as the coho The big whitefish was 20 inches, about 3-4 pounds Never caught a big one before Nov 27th
