Interesting that this post should show up now I picked up a pond yacht this past weekend It belonged to a neighbor who gave it to us "kids" 25 years ago So, on the trip home to visit the grandparents, I retrieved it from the basement and son and I hope to give "Bourtai" new life on Walden Pond Here are some pictures:

On another note, I see later 20th century (1975 to 1982) parts lists for yachts including Merriman and Merriman-Holbrook components and Merriman Yacht Specialties steering pedestals Are all these Merrimans related, offshoots of Merriman Brothers, and are they all out of business? Finally, a little bit of free time (though not much) I'm going to take the opportunity next week to make a run up to the Peabody Essex Museum, and I've made an appointment with the curator to look at and possibly get copies of some of Mr Crowninshield's designs

In which it is claimed that the lifeboat Susan Ashley was retired in 1937, converted to a motor yacht, and then later converted into the Ketch seen in the film Another internet forum yielded a clew that there was an article in Classic Boat (Issue 3 Summer 1987) about the conversion But I doubt I will be able to uncover this issue, its not online
