The SSS also organizes the legendary Singlehanded TransPacific Yacht Race (aka SHTP) from San Francisco to Kauai, Hawaii The race occurs in odd numbered years and has been dubbed “ a buglight for weirdos ” based on the unique challenge of sailing solo across the Pacific Ocean The LongPac, or Longitudinal Pacific Race, is the qualifier for the SHTP and occurs in even numbered years

In order to enter a SSS race, you’ll need a rating for your boat If you have a monohull boat, please obtain a NC PHRF certificate from the YRA (Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay)If you have a multihull boat, you’ll need to contact BAMA (Bay Area Multihull Association)Please use the appropriate button to navigate to YRA or BAMA

Remember that the entry deadline for each race is the Wednesday evening before the race If you can’t get to the skippers meeting, mail your entry early and check the website sfbaysss org before the deadline to be sure it arrived!

In addition to the SSS’s races, the Offshore Yacht Racing Association (OYRA) section of the Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay (YRA) provides a division for singlehanded or doublehanded sailors in approximately 10 races per year Participation in these races requires a separate application to YRA Contact the YRA at www yra org
