Cape Horn 24 twin 150s porpoising, props, engine height, performance . . . "I recently picked up a 2005 CH24 twin F150's with Mirage Plus 17P which are 15 5inches Top speed is 45-46 at 5700 5800 RPM and the boat sure does like to porpoise without a good amount of engine trim and some tab The motors are mounted on the lowest possible hole I too read some posts on Propgods and was thinking about moving them up one hole
Cape Horn 24 twin 150s porpoising, props, engine height, performance . . . I can add some more info from our 100 mile run yesterday, in fairly calm conditions after the morning chop Running 31-33mph later when it was pretty calm, the boat still wanted to porpoise pretty good with zero tab and engines trimmed all the way in I had about 300lbs of ice and slurry in the front big fishbox
The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum with four strokes the formula seems to be a four blade prop, wedges and maybe a few lbs in the anchor locker They porpoise with too much weight in the back A good set of tabs are a must Great boats, I have an 89 215 with a 250efi Just be mindful of the wood
Contender 31 Mounting Height - The Hull Truth New 31 w 250 f strokes and wedges Has anyone tried to raise these engines to the top hole? reason I ask is that the wedges make the steering cylinders hit the transom when the motors are trimmed up, and the boat has a slight tendancy to porpoise when heavy On previous 25 we eliminated most of the porpoise by raising the engines
Boating and Fishing Forum - The Hull Truth Yeah I am willing to do all that , I want to tear into it and make it new again , my main concern is if I close in the transom And install an Armstrong bracket with twin 150 Suzuki’s or possibly 200s how will it ride And is it gonna ride too high in the bow , wanting advice from anyone that has done this with a 25 and how seaworthy is it , I want to replace the fuel tank, close the transom etc
Cape Horn 24 twin 150s porpoising, props, engine height, performance . . . I have a 23 contender with twin 200 hpdis When I got the boat it would porpoise badly I put bob's manual jack plates on and raised the motors way up Also switched from 21sws to 19 Rev 4s Lost a little top end but it rides like a whole different boat
Cape Horn 24 twin 150s porpoising, props, engine height, performance . . . Seems to me CH has to revise these hulls and provide a fix to their customers Not bashing cape horn i would say the same about contender who seems to have a porpoise issue to on the 23T models i think Ken knows his stuff as i fixed a porpoise issue on my rig and it was solely engine height I bumped the engines up and done My 2 cents
Proline 251 Suzuki 300 repower - The Hull Truth Around 35 mph, mine starts to porpoise also It takes engine in, bow down, to counter act Full fuel is worse than low fuel Minimum planing speed is 17 to 18 mph around 3500 rpm WOT is 44 to 47 at 5900 to 6000rpm, but the boat is squirrelly Sweet spot is 28 to 32 mph
