MS Outlook 2016 does NOT save items in Sent items mailbox, but . . . It is actually "attaching" the message to the reply? Or just moving it into the same folder as the original message? When you enable the option to save messages with the original if not in the inbox, it moves the sent item to that folder honestly, i would not use that option - if you use conversation view and include messages in other folders, you'll see the sent items grouped with the original
