vb. n. {Fretting}.] [OE. freten to eat, consume; AS. fretan,
for foretan; pref. for- etan to eat; akin to D. vreten,
OHG. frezzan, G. fressen, Sw. fr[aum]ta, Goth. fra-itan. See
