Scape \Scape\, n. [L. scapus shaft, stem, stalk; cf. Gr. ? a
staff: cf. F. scape. Cf. {Scepter}.]
1. (Bot.) A peduncle rising from the ground or from a
subterranean stem, as in the stemless violets, the
bloodroot, and the like.
